Founded by craftsman Thirgan Govender, Nyati Steel Crafts is a Johanneburg based steel workshop that transforms raw steel into robust, functional structures with a focus on design, security, and quality. They focuse on secure, durable, and custom steelwork tailored to industrial, commercial, and private needs. They asked me to create a logo and visual identity that resonated with them and their business goals.

Despite their strong focus on design, security, and quality, their brand lacked the visual impact to match their craftsmanship and ambitions. They needed a distinctive logo and visual identity that would reflect their values: strength, precision, and protection, while also establishing a professional presence in the highly competitive steel fabrication and security industry.
The project began with understanding Nyati Steel Crafts’ positioning: a workshop built on custom, high-quality steelwork with an emphasis on durability and security. Inspired by the company’s name “Nyati,” the Zulu word for buffalo. We explored symbolic ways to visually communicate strength, leadership, and resilience. The visual identity needed to balance industrial credibility with aesthetic refinement, creating an identity that would resonate with clients across sectors.
The final logo features a stylised buffalo, representing strength, protection, and leadership the very traits that define Nyati Steel Crafts. A steel slate was incorporated into the composition, symbolising the primary material they work with and reinforcing the brand’s foundation in custom fabrication. The colour palette was built to convey strength and clarity: Royal Blue and Deep Blue evoke trust, technical precision, and industrial confidence; Charcoal Black and Concrete Grey speak to the raw durability of steel; while accents of Khaki bring warmth and heritage into the brand system. Together, the logo and visual identity reflect Nyati Steel Crafts’ mission to deliver secure, durable, and beautifully crafted steelwork tailored to their clients’ needs.
